The five-Soldier team from 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, finished first in both portions of the Canoe and Run event July 18 at Otter Lake on Fort Richardson in the ongoing Combat Cross Country Series.
Stewart Lindsay and Sam Perlik got things rolling, piloting their canoe across Otter Lake and around the buoys marking the course well ahead of the other competitors to give the team’s three runners a decent head start.

The Headquarters Detachment, 59th Signal Battalion, team finished second, followed by the team from E Company, 725th Brigade Support Battalion.
The final event in the Combat Cross Country series, the 10-Mile Relay, is scheduled for Sept. 12 at 2 p.m. starting at Attu Hall. Registration and rucksack weigh-in will begin at 1 p.m.
