What are the GED Tests?
The GED consists of five tests in the areas of Language Arts (Reading and Writing), Social Studies, Science, and Mathematics. The tests are designed to measure the important knowledge and skills normally acquired by completing a typical high school program of study. The tests use a timed multiple-choice question format. In addition, each candidate must complete a timed essay on an assigned topic in order to pass the writing portion of the GED test. Detailed information is available at http://www.acenet.edu.
How do I prepare for testing?
Begin by taking a practice GED test at the Education Center in Building 7. Hours are from 1200 - 1600 Monday thru Friday. No appointment is necessary. The practice GED takes three and half hours to complete. Discuss the results of your practice test with a counselor in the Education Center in Room 250. Your results will help you decide if you are ready to test or if you only need to brush up your skills in a few areas. The counselor can also answer any questions you may have.
How can I schedule a GED test?
Call (907) 384-0961 to make an appointment. You will need to bring a valid picture ID card. If you are under the age of eighteen, you will need written permission from your parent or guardian and a withdrawal form from your Alaska high school.
